Privacy Policy
Effective date: 1 October 2026
GetGreek is operated by Alexander Malnev, an individual developer established in Cyprus (“we”, “us”). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data when you use the GetGreek iPhone app (the “App”) and the website getgreek.app (together, the “Service”).
Short version: we collect what we need to run your account and your learning progress, plus usage statistics to improve the App. We don’t sell your data.
1. Who is responsible
The data controller is Alexander Malnev, Aretousas 19, 3113 Limassol, Cyprus. For any privacy question or request, email privacy@getgreek.app.
2. Data we collect
Account data
When you create an account we collect your email address and a password, which is stored only in hashed form. If you choose Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google, we receive an account identifier and, if you share them, your name and email address. Sign in with Apple lets you hide your real email behind an Apple relay address.
Learning data
Your native language and settings, the level you choose or your word-check (placement test) results, the words in your vocabulary, exercise and training results, learning path and course progress, streaks, and word or language suggestions you send us.
Device and technical data
- A random device identifier generated by the App and stored in your device’s Keychain. Because it is kept in the Keychain, it may persist if you delete and reinstall the App. It is not your Apple advertising identifier.
- App version and build, iOS version, device model and locale.
- Standard server logs (such as IP address, request time and errors), kept for security and troubleshooting.
Usage statistics
The App records how its features are used, for example which screens are opened, when an exercise is started or completed, and how many characters a search has. Before you sign in, events are linked to a random app identifier. After you sign in, usage events may be associated with your account. We may also run experiments in which different users see slightly different versions of a feature.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, we store your device’s push token, your notification preferences and reminder time. We use them to send:
- study reminders and notifications about your learning (for example, words that are due for review); and
- news and offers about GetGreek, only if you have opted in to them where the law requires it.
You can turn notifications off at any time in the App’s notification settings or in iOS Settings. Notifications may include an image, which your device downloads from our servers when the notification arrives.
Emails
We email you about your account, for example to confirm your email address or reset your password. We send product news by email only if you opt in, for example by ticking the box when you sign up. We keep these emails rare and only about updates that really matter. You can unsubscribe at any time with the link at the bottom of every such email. We keep a record of when and how you gave or withdrew your consent.
Purchases
Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple. We never see your payment card details. Apple sends us transaction information (such as product, purchase and renewal dates, and status) so we can unlock Premium on your account.
Feedback
If you send feedback, we receive your message, any images you choose to attach, and the account and device details needed to follow up.
Website
The website getgreek.app does not use analytics, advertising cookies or tracking scripts. Our hosting and content-delivery provider processes standard request logs (such as IP address) and may set strictly necessary security cookies to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. Because we don’t track you, “Do Not Track” and Global Privacy Control signals don’t change how the site works.

Automated personalisation. We automatically personalise your word set, learning path and reviews based on your answers. We don’t make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects based solely on automated processing.
4. Who we share data with
We share personal data with service providers that help us run the Service, under contracts that require them to protect it and use it only on our instructions. They fall into these categories:
- Hosting and infrastructure providers, which run our servers and databases;
- Network security and content delivery providers, which protect and deliver the App’s traffic and host the website;
- Email delivery providers, which send account confirmation and password reset emails;
- Analytics and experimentation providers, which help us understand how the App is used and test improvements;
- Apple, for Sign in with Apple, push notifications (APNs) and App Store purchases;
- Google, for Sign in with Google, if you choose it.
We may also disclose data if the law requires it, to protect our rights or users’ safety, or as part of a sale, merger or acquisition of the App or our business.
5. International transfers
Some providers may process data outside your country, including outside the European Economic Area. Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as an adequacy decision or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses. You can contact us at privacy@getgreek.app for more information about the safeguards that apply to your data.
6. How long we keep data
We keep personal data only as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy, using these criteria:
| Data | How long |
|---|---|
| Account and learning data | As long as your account exists. |
| Usage statistics | As long as they’re useful for analysing and improving the App, after which they are deleted or aggregated so they no longer identify you. |
| Feedback and attachments | As long as needed to handle your feedback and improve the Service. |
| Push tokens | Until they are no longer valid or no longer needed to send you notifications. |
| Purchase and transaction records | As long as tax and accounting laws require. |
| Server logs | For a limited period, as needed for security and troubleshooting. |
| Backups | Deleted data is removed from backups as they are replaced in the normal backup cycle. |
We may delete accounts that have been inactive for a long period and have no active subscription.
If GetGreek shuts down. If we discontinue the Service (see our Terms of Use), we’ll delete personal data within a reasonable period after the Service stops, except records we must keep by law.
7. Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time in the App: Profile → Delete account. This deletes your account and learning data, except data we must keep by law or that remains in backups until they are replaced (see section 6). You can also ask us to delete it by emailing privacy@getgreek.app.
Deleting your account does not cancel an active App Store subscription. Cancel it in your Apple ID settings to stop future charges.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live (including in the EU, UK and California), you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you and get a copy of it;
- correct inaccurate data;
- delete your data;
- object to or restrict certain processing, including processing based on legitimate interest such as usage statistics;
- receive your data in a portable format;
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting earlier processing.
To use any of these rights, email privacy@getgreek.app. We’ll reply within the time required by law. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, including the Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection in Cyprus or the competent authority in the country where you live or work.
California residents: we don’t sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we don’t disclose it to third parties for their direct marketing purposes (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.83).
9. Children
The Service is intended for people aged 16 and over. We don’t knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe someone under 16 has given us personal data, contact us and we’ll delete it.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we can’t guarantee the security of your data. If a data breach occurs, we’ll notify you and the authorities where the law requires it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll change the effective date above and, where the law requires it, inform you of significant changes in the App or on getgreek.app.
